Caterpillars & Butterflies!

Hey Everyone- It's Danielle again from Krazee 4 Kindergarten and our classroom caterpillars have arrived! Each year in April we receive caterpillars which will turn into Painted Lady butterflies. We are so excited to watch this awesome transformation!

This week we started out by reviewing non-fiction and completed a Fact or Fiction sort using Scholastic magazines and a sorting page that you can get for free here. Students sort fiction & non-fiction books. We have become quite the experts in determining which book titles and covers are fiction and which are informational.

After completing the sort we learned about the life cycle of the butterfly. We read many books both fiction and non-fiction about butterflies.

We worked in groups and also completed individual reports. Click here for the butterfly report!

We wrote butterfly sentences and completed a butterfly graphic organizer. We added a butterfly poem to our poetry notebook and completed a labeling sheet and compound word sheet.

We incorporated our butterfly theme into our math lessons on numbers beyond 20 and measurement. The butterfly ruler was a huge hit!

We incorporated social studies into our study on butterflies.

 We completed butterfly crafts.

We learned that butterflies use their proboscis to get nectar from flowers. We used straws and pretended to be butterflies. You can grab the butterfly headband here for free!

Each day we observe our caterpillars and complete a page in our butterfly journal.

We are finding caterpillars everywhere!
