Stories and Comprehension for Early Readers

Hi friends, it's Alex from The Kindergarten Connection! Today is my first post here with iteach Kinder, and I am super excited to have a "Win it Wednesday" in store for you!

Here is a super quick "about me" so that you can get to know me a bit better! I am a Kindergarten teacher but I have also taught 1st, 2nd, and 1st-3rd multiage. I am a night owl (That's when I do my best thinking) coffee addict, and I could read books all day if that wouldn't be frowned upon!

Now - onto what you can WIN!

Building fluency and comprehension in early readers takes time and practice. Exposure to sight words, spelling patterns and word families can help readers develop more confidence and gain fluency. Asking questions during and after reading can also help foster early comprehension.

Show and Tell passages for early readers contain short stories with either CVC words and sight words or CVCe words and sight words. They have a section for illustrating the story and also a question to help develop comprehension.

Depending on the level or needs of your students, you can have them write a response to the question, or you can orally ask the question and write their response as a quick assessment for you on their understanding or recall.

The complete set of Show and Tell short stories and comprehension contains:
  • 20 CVC/sight word passages
  • 20 CVCe/and sight word passages

You can enter to win a complete set below!
